The Bayesian Statistical Method is a statistical approach used in interpreting DNA evidence. This is an approach to balance the evidence gathered from the additional information that will contribute in solving the crime. This method was named after Reverend Thomas Bayes. This was established to make sure that the evidence gathered as DNA evidence is not processed recklessly and should be accurate; this also gives allowance to some error that might occur in testing. DNA evidence gathered should be processed accordingly following the guidelines provided by the laboratory and using powerful forensic microscopes.
This method is used to avoid biases in the courtroom where evidence is presented to the jury. The DNA evidence has proven to the most powerful evidence presented in the courtroom; however the Bayesian Method is the guideline for logical explanation. Bayesian method helps in assessment and legality of the evidence presented. This method also makes sure that the sample is obtained from the same source or person and tested accordingly using forensic microscopes.
This method is used as a neutral way for both the victim and the suspect. The prosecution must present evidence of matching profiles to prove that the suspect is guilty, the evidence should have undergone series of test under forensic microscopes to be accepted by the court. Each country has some records of DNA profile of its citizen. The police department has a database of some law offenders and hospitals have some useful records that will needed in the prosecution. The Forensic scientist is in charge to gather all the evidence to be presented in court. He must also make sure that the examination and test conducted are accurate and relevant to the case.
